Mobilizing Health Center Dental Providers to Policy Action
In August 2010, the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) and the Pew Charitable Trusts concluded a funding agreement for NNOHA to engage in policy and advocacy for improved oral health access for the underserved populations, especially focusing on the three key areas of community water fluoridation, school-based sealant programs, and oral health workforce.
The purpose of the Mobilizing Health Center Dental Providers to Policy Action initiative is to support the Pew Children's Dental Campaign in its advocacy efforts to ensure that more children receive dental care and benefit from policies proven to prevent tooth decay by developing a sustainable advocacy capacity within the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA). Under this initiative, NNOHA will develop policy statements, enhance NNOHA’s capacity to advocate on behalf of policies adopted by the organization, and support the Pew Campaign in planning and carrying out its advocacy efforts on both federal and state campaigns.

Goals of the Initiative:
1. Build NNOHA’s capacity to plan and carry out advocacy efforts.
2. Develop NNOHA policy statements on the three policy focus areas of community water fluoridation, school-based sealant programs, and oral health workforce.
3. Educate NNOHA members to advocate on behalf of the policy statements.
