2013 Dental Salary & Job Satisfaction Survey

 The National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) is conducting a 2013 Dental Salary & Job Satisfaction Survey at Health Centers nationwide through a partnership with Dr. Kenneth A. Bolin, a public health dentist and former FQHC dental director. One of the most frequently requested items from Health Center administrators and dental staff is information on salaries, recruitment of oral health providers, and job satisfaction related to retention of those providers. NNOHA believes that the information gathered will be very valuable to all Health Centers.

NNOHA Welcomes Membership Services and Office Support Coordinator, Terri Means to the Team

In March Terri Means joined NNOHA as the new Membership Services and Office Support Coordinator. Terri Means previously worked as the Director of Operations for the Colorado Association of Family Medicine Residencies, Colorado Institute on Family Medicine and the Commission on Family Medicine providing program management, facilitation and logistical support for all three boards. Terri created recruitment and retention strategies for the nine family medicine residency programs in Colorado. Terri worked with various communities in Colorado to address physician workforce issues in rural and underserved portions of the state. Terri is a founding board member of Own Your Own Health a not-for-profit that encourages patients to take ownership of their own healthcare. Terri has been a Governor appointed member of the J1/Conrad 30 Visa Committee since 2010. I am excited to join NNOHA and look forward to learning more about oral health. NNOHA Welcomes Winter Volunteer

Rachel Mundus has a strong passion for safety-net dentistry. She is an advocate for oral health education and helping people find a comprehensive dental home. Ms. Mundus is studying to become a pediatric public health dentist and working to improve access for dental services in her home state of Michigan and nationally. After receiving her B.A. from the University of Tennessee in 2011 in African-American Studies she has been working to develop children’s education programs, support community clinics, and serves on the Children's ToothFairy Foundation Board.  She lives in Detroit, is working with Remote Area Medical and the Michigan legislature to bring no-cost clinics to Michigan’s medically underserved areas, and is a post-Bachelor student at Wayne State University. Call for Applications: Oral Health Core Clinical Competency Pilot Project

The National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) is seeking applications from Federally-Qualified Health Centers to participate in the Oral Health Core Clinical Competency Pilot Project, funded through NNOHA’s cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The goal of the Oral Health Core Clinical Competency Pilot Project is to adopt and implement oral health core clinical competencies using a sustainable systems-approach resulting in integration of oral health and primary care through inter-professional collaborative practice.

Oral Health Core Clinical Competency Training Demonstration Project Evaluator - Request for Proposals

NNOHA is seeking an independent evaluator for its Oral Health Core Clinical Competency Training Demonstration Project.  The project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of oral health core clinical competencies using a sustainable systems approach that results in integrating oral health and primary care through interprofessional collaborative practice.

NNOHA seeks responses from nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, consulting firms, independent consultants or higher education institutions that have experience evaluating demonstration projects. Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

- Health Centers and/or Health Center Providers.

- Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Electronic Dental Records (EDR), or registries.

- Patient access and utilization measures.

- Evaluation of professional training programs.

- Community oral health interventions.

NNOHA Welcomes Special Projects Coordinator, Sonia Sheck, MS

In September, NNOHA hired Sonia Sheck, MS as its new Special Projects Coordinator. Previously, Sonia worked for Colorado Community Health Network where she provided project management, facilitation, and practice coaching to safety net clinics in the areas of the patient-centered health home model and oral health. Sonia also facilitated the Colorado Dental Health Network, a board-appointed committee of Colorado health center dental directors, by coordinating in-person meetings, creating new data analyses, and strengthening partnerships. Her experiences in the health care field also includes coordinating access to coverage and care for elementary school children in New York City, analyzing health care claims data for a large New York City-based health care worker's union, and providing consulting and facilitation support to primary care associations throughout the country. In November, five of the current NNOHA Board members’ terms are expiring and are open for re-election. The current members are eligible for re-election and will be running to retain their seats. NNOHA welcomes other nominations or self-nominations for these Board positions from HRSA Regions II, III, VIII, and X and from interested members from any other HRSA Region. Successful candidates for the NNOHA Board should demonstrate some history of service or involvement in NNOHA. This can be demonstrated by active service on a standing NNOHA committee, subcommittee, or ad hoc workgroup contributing to activities that promote and sustain NNOHA.
