NNOHA's National Primary Oral Health Conference Planning Committee invites proposals for Oral Presentations and/or Poster Presentations for the 2012 Conference. This year's conference will take place September 30 - October 3, 2012 at the Hilton Torrey Pines Hotel in La Jolla, CA. The theme is "Collaboration: Strengthening the Safety Net." The purpose of the Call for Abstracts is to collect applications that showcase and promote the replication of innovative and successful oral health programs and management strategies. The deadline for the Call for Abstracts application is June 15, 2012. Applicants are welcome to submit on the following clinical / education or operations training / best practices topics. Similar proposals per category may be asked to present as a group. The CMS Innovation Center has announced the first batch of preliminary awardees for the Health Care Innovation Awards. Awardees include health centers, hospitals, universities and others. These organizations will implement projects in communities across the nation that aim to deliver better health, improved care and lower costs to people enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), particularly those with the highest health care needs. NOSORH has designed this institute specifically with the needs of SORHs, community leaders and rural health partners in mind. Health professions faculty from disadvantaged backgrounds can receive up to a maximum of $40,000 towards repayment of their student loans in exchange for educating tomorrow's clinicians. Individuals selected to participate in the program agree to serve on the faculty of an accredited health professions college or university for 2 years. The Government pays up to a maximum of $40,000 of the participant's student loans and provides funds to offset the tax burden. The financial assistance offered through FLRP decreases the economic barriers associated with pursuing a career as a health professions educator preparing the next generation of health professionals.
