Workforce Resources

Workforce issues remain a top concern for safety-net dental clinics struggling with issues of recruitment, retention, training, salary, and turnover rates. NNOHA has compiled some workforce resources that have been valuable tools to safety-net programs attempting to build a strong, high-quality, dental workforce:

 NNOHA's Workforce Resources:

  1. JOB BANK: NNOHA has job bank available for members with openings in their dental clinics. As dental capacity grows, the need for dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants committed to caring for underserved patients is growing as well.
  2. Employer Compensation Analysis: The benefits of working at a Health Center are substantial. This Employer Compensation Analysis tool allows for a side-by-side comparison of the value of working in a Health Center compared to independent contracting or self-employment. This tool is useful to illustrate to prospective job applicants or current staff the value of employer-provided benefits. The formulas are all calculated; you have to fill in the cells in red font color with the numbers that are applicable for your facility.  Sample numbers are included for illustrative purposes using national averages. The analysis has been updated with 2011 FICA information. This resource was originally developed by NNOHA Board Member Dr. Janet Bozzone of Open Door Family Medical Centers in New York.

  3. Dental Recruitment Tips for Human Resources and Dental Directors: This short document compiles recruitment and retention tips for programs attempting to build a strong, high-quality, dental workforce.
  4. Dental Vacancy Catalog: NNOHA regularly monitors PCA job boards and other resources to estimate the number of dental vacancies nationwide.
  5. Publications: NNOHA continues to develop publications on oral health workforce, including the Salary and Retention Survey.
  6. Webinar - The NNOHA Survey of Health Center Dental Salaries: Trends and Analysis: NNOHA's Board member Dr. Wayne Cottam presented a webinar on the salary survey in August 2010.
