The Dental Director is responsible for supporting the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) with the administrative and clinical oversight within the Dental Department. Functions under the direct supervision of the CDO. In addition to clinical duties, the Dental Director assists in maintaining standards of dental care for all sites and monitoring the treatment of the dental providers (dentists, dental therapists, and dental hygienists, as well as assisting in dental assistant training) in terms of qualifications, skills, and professional performance of growth. Responsible for the quality of improvement measures providing detailed reporting including dashboards, surveys, and audits. Ensures excellent customer service is provided to patients and amongst team members by promoting a positive team-based work environment. Assumes all administrative and clinical responsibilities of the dental sites in the absence of the CDO. Attends all dental administrative and scheduled meetings, dental provider meetings, and attends various other meetings and collaboratives as required by the CDO.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1.  Patient Care Management (80%)

Performs clinical services of a Staff Dentist.


2.   CDO Support (5%)

Aides in the evaluation of provider staffing needs.

  • Works directly with the CDO to develop new dental initiatives, including but not limited to policy and procedure improvements, new equipment and supplies, site improvements, quality assurance and management of dental personnel.

  • Assists the CDO with 90-day annual provider evaluations.

  • Participates in strategic planning and dental administration meetings.

  • Assists with patient complaints and terminations.

3. Quality Improvement (5%)

  • Assists the CDO in evaluating chart audits for dental quality assurance, peer review, and quality improvement outcome measures.

  • Works with the Director Dental Services for the presentation of T.E.A.M.S. and monitors T.E.A.M.S. goals at each site.

4.  Provider Oversight (5%)

  • Participates in dental provider evaluations and development.

  • Focuses on provider growth and instruction.

  • Assists in the training and corrective actions of dental providers.

  • Works with the Director Dental Services and the Dental Coordinators for the evaluation of the auxiliary staff.

  • Provides oversight for the training and development of the Dental Assisting Training Program.

5. Staffing, Recruitment, and Retention (5%)

  • Oversees student rotations, including student orientation, completed procedures, preceptor training, student evaluations, etc.

  • Assists in Dentist recruitment.

  • Participates in the interviewing and provider hires.

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES

1.  Attends local or out-of-town training opportunities or meetings as assigned.

2.  Assist in the development of additional community based oral programs as needs or opportunities arise.

3.  Fills in for other staff as needed and qualified.

4.  Performs other duties as assigned.


 REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS


Education: Must have graduated from a U.S. Accredited Dental School.

Licensure: Maintains current certification and appropriate licensure as required by the State of Michigan Board of Dentistry, Board of Pharmacy, and the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration and BLS certification.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a multi­ provider dental setting.


Skills: An extensive knowledge of business and an excellent command of the English language and written communication skills. Critical thinking and strong organizational skills required. Demonstrate professional leadership abilities and team building skills required. Self­ motivated. Analytical ability required to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various problems, and prioritize work. Required continual attention to detail and handles multiple tasks in an effective manner.


 Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with and relate to a diverse population in a professional and courteous manner. Able to work independently and takes initiative on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Provides consistent and fair approach with all staff matters.


 Physical Effort: Medium.


Hours of Work: Full-time; flexible and varied.


Travel: Travel using GLBHC vehicle or personal vehicle. Reimbursement for expenses consistent with GLBHC policy. Must have proof of personal liability and property damage insurance coverage to receive mileage reimbursement.


PREFERRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Experience: Supervisory experience preferred.


Skills: Bilingual preferred.
