The University of Utah School of Dentistry (UUSOD) is accepting applications for a full-time periodontist/clinician scientist to join our dental school faculty. The position is available in the Tenure-line or Career-line (Clinical Track) at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank. Rank will be determined by the candidate’s experience and qualifications.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting the creation of a specialty residency program in the discipline, in addition to didactic and clinical periodontal education, mentoring students in the predoctoral program, and engaging in research. 


Initial responsibilities will include didactic and clinical periodontal education and mentoring students in the predoctoral program and engaging in research activity.  Future responsibilities will include preparing for the creation of a specialty residency program in periodontology.  


The successful applicant must have a background as a clinical scientist.  This will be especially important to the needs of the future periodontal residency.  Current timeline goals will be dependent on the Initial Accreditation Application for a Developing Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics.  The goal will be to offer periodontal residency training in 4-5 years.


This position will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care of patients in the restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, oral surgery, and oral diagnosis sections of the UUSOD. Evidence-based care is integral to all our programs.


Candidates must have the skills, capacities, and interests to educate and train an exceptionally talented group of students in a university environment. Qualified candidates must have completed a CODA accredited specialty program in Periodontics. The successful candidate must be a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.


Qualified candidates should have a DDS or equivalent degree and qualify for a dental license in Utah. Requirements for a Utah dental license is found on DOPL.
