POSITION:  Dentist

REPORTS TO:  Dental Director


SUMMARY:  This position will support One Community Health by providing comprehensive primary oral health care and preventive dental care to patients in a community healthcare setting.   The dentist will work directly with the Dental Director, Chief Medical Officer, and the dental team to provide high quality patient oriented dental care.   The Dentist will work collaboratively with both clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure that patient care is provided in a consistent manner. Collaboration may include but is not limited to team huddles, training, continuing education and maintenance of the Electronic Dental Record (EDR).  The Dentist will achieve and maintain productivity and quality standards as directed by the Dental Director and One Community Health Quality Initiatives.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1.  Performs patient exams, diagnoses dental disease and conditions, evaluates oral health and plans; and, provides treatment using principles of theories, and practices of dentistry.   

2.  Makes independent decisions in regard to replacement teeth, cleaning, fillings, and extractions with use of hand instruments, medication or other applicable services.

3.  Assumes quality of care for all dental patients seen at One Community Health.

4.  Adheres to the highest standard of dental practice, ethics and professionalism at all times.

5.  Ability to enter dental services into the One Community Health Electronic Dental Record which accurately documents care or treatment.

6.  Recommend changes in all dental clinical services or in general to improve patient flow, dental records, dental billing and appointment practices.

7.  Helps train and educate dental ancillary staff to perform their duties when necessary and to understand policies, procedures, and protocols.

8.  Maintain an affiliation with professional groups, dental associations and dental organizations.

9.  Participates in community health events.

10.  Ability to relate to public regardless of ethnic, religion, sexual orientation and economic status.

11.  Provides feedback and input on the Dental Department Policies and Procedures Manual. 

12.  Responsible for compliance of clinic personnel with OSHA standards, HIPAA privacy, and other applicable federal and state laws, regarding the practice of dentistry.

13.  Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement program as required and appropriate. 

14.  The dentist is also responsible for making sure that all patients are provided with an outstanding level of quality dental care.

15.  As directed by the Dental Director, performs other related work or necessary tasks to achieve goals and objectives of the Dental Department and organization.

16.  Participates in collaborative learning projects and quality improvement initiatives that One Community Health programs may engage in.

17.  Meets and or exceeds OCH Dental program productivity goals. (1.7 encounters per hour-2024) and 45% dental sealant rate for eligible children.

18.  Provides leadership and guidance to assigned dental assistant staff to achieve productivity goals

19.  Achieves Phase One Treatment Plan completion rate to regulate panel size to increase new patients

EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIALITY:  

Each One Community Health employee is responsible for adhering to the California law and One Community policy which prohibits the unauthorized disclosure of information regarding a patient’s medical history, dental, mental or physical conditions, or treatment without the expressed authorization of the patient or the patient’s legal representative.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE AND OR LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

•  Graduate from an accredited dental school.

•  Must have a current California Dental license.

•  Must have a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.

•  Current CPR Certification

•  Professional clinical dental experience in practicing dentistry.

•  Interest in design and evaluation of efficiency of a dental program in a community health center setting.

•  Authoritative knowledge of the practice and techniques of dentistry as a general practitioner in a community health center is highly desirable.

•  Licenses required for this position must be kept current, valid, and in good standing with the presiding entity. 

•  Maintain appropriate clinical privileges required.

•  Advanced Education in General Dentistry or General Practice Residency training is preferred.

•  A minimum of 2 years clinical experience is preferred.


SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

1. Familiarity with HIPPA, OSHA, and Laws/Regulations pertaining to the practice of dentistry in California.

2.  Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

3.  Ability to use Electronic Health Record (EPIC/Wisdom) to document patient care.

4.  Technical proficiency for premolar and anterior endodontic procedures

5.  Technical proficiency in basic oral surgery including moderately complex surgical extractions and biopsy procedures.
