CLASSIFICATION/STATUS: Non-exempt, 6 month grant-funded role eligible for permanent role based on performance


IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Clinical Coordinator of Dental Services

PAY RANGE: Band A ($17.00 - $18.00/hour)

YOUR ROLE & IMPACT

The mission of Charles River Community Health (CRCH) is to partner with individuals and families so they can thrive and lead healthier lives by delivering the comprehensive, integrated, and equitable primary healthcare that matters most to them. The OJT Dental Assistant will play a critical role in the seamless execution of dental services by increasing patient flow and productivity. The OJT Dental Assistant will work to decrease the workload of the individual provider/dentist to support the overall goal of providing quality dental care.


YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Review dental assistant OJT checklist weekly with supervising dentist and senior dental assistant.

Successfully complete OJT checklist within 6 months of start date.

Under the direct supervision of the Dentist and/or Hygienist, assist during patient exam(s) and treatment(s) chairside.

Take digital radiographic images at the direction of a dental provider.

Responsible for ensuring that the images are stored in the appropriate digital file.

Prepare operatory for dental treatment by arranging dental instruments, materials and medications.

Prepare restorative materials and dental procedures.

Keep oral operating areas clear during treatment.

Sterilize instruments using autoclave and chemical disinfectants, maintain equipment.

Assist in laboratory procedures as directed by the Dentist.

Willingness to support training needs for students and internships as requested.

Clean operatory areas units, chairs, cabinets, and counters as needed. Adhere to infection control and OSHA policies.

Provide patient information and education as directed.

Work collaboratively with other Health Center staff in meeting JCAHO accreditation and other regulatory and/or funding requirements.

Perform general cleanup of lab areas and radiological equipment.

Maintain inventory of materials used and order supplies in conjunction with the Dental Director, in absence of Clinical Coordinator of Dental Services.

Perform reception duties in the absence of the receptionist.

Assist in the training of new staff members.

Participate in various Health Center activities and committees as required.

May perform other services as deemed necessary by the Dentist and/or Hygienist.


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, TRAITS

Graduate of High School required with at least one year of work experience (no prior dental experience necessary).

Must obtain Dental Assistant License from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts within 6 months of starting.

Current CPR/BLS certification.

Completion of continuing education course on CDC guidelines for infection control in dental healthcare setting.

Completion of radiation health and safety training course.

Must be bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese.

Basic knowledge of dental terminology and procedures preferred.

Must be familiar with the proper handling and storage of digital sensors.

Familiarity with dental/medical office routine helpful.

Must be willing to work during Health Center/Dental Department's operational hours.

Must have a willingness to work flexible hours to meet the organization's needs/demands.

Must be able to travel to either Charles River Community Health site (Brighton and Waltham) as needed.

Must have excellent communication skills, particularly with people from diverse cultures, with the ability to understand the community, population, and patients we serve.

Must have experience in diverse cultures, with strong commitment to promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and reducing inequities.

Must believe in the work we do at CRCH, with a strong passion to serve underserved populations in diverse settings.
