Position Summary

A full time, position responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding a program of primary and preventive dental care in the Cahaba Medical Dental Center

The Dentist directly supervises dental hygienists, assistants  and provides clinical direction to the Dental Receptionist

The Dentist will be in charge of oversight of quality clinical practices, oversees regulatory compliance, safety and standards of care, delivered by the staff of the dental clinic at Cahaba Medical Dental Center

The Dentist will supervise the Dental Clinic, oversight for ensuring a quality clinical experience of the patients


Required Skills/Abilities or Licensure

· Minimum of five years of clinical experience is preferred

· Detail oriented.  Effective organization skills.  Meets timetable.  Successful working in a fast paced situation and is self-directed with minimal supervision

· Up to date knowledge of regulations, methods, trends and equipment

· Desire to expand knowledge from both a clinical and administrative perspective including management and leadership skills

· Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus

· Doctorate in Dentistry, DMD or DDS degree

· Valid Alabama Dental License

· Valid Controlled Substance License

· Valid DEA License

· Valid Driver’s License

· US citizen or permanent immigration status

· Current Malpractice Insurance to meet Cahaba Medical Center requirements

· Current county and/or city business License

· Current CPR certification

· Current vaccinations, recent TB testing and up to date Hepatitis Titer

· OSHA Bloodborne  Pathogen Exposure Classification: Category 1


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

· Provided hands-on patient care as scheduled each week

· Examines individuals requesting care, diagnose their dental/oral conditions. Prescribe and carries out or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refer individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guideline

· Record patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care of treatment provided. The Doctor needs to complete or supervise the completions of referral, data collection, record or paper works as shall be required from time to time by the Cahaba Medical Dental Center.

. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential

· Educate individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention or supervise the education of such

· Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested

· Assists in the coordination and integration of the Cahaba Medical Dental Center dental programs and services with other corporate programs and services for the welfare of the Cahaba Medical  patients

· Adheres to treatment, philosophy and policies as interpreted by the Cahaba Medical Board and Executive Director and develops and operates services accordingly

· Supervise the provision of all dental services

· Represent Cahaba Medical Dental Center at community meeting and events, as requested

· Works with staff, patients, UAB liaison, other non-profit directors and others in a professional, cooperative, ethical, respectful and effective manner

· Complies with Cahaba Medical Dental Center  policies regarding safety


Environmental/Working Conditions

Normal office environment.  Full-time/or part-time position.  Position requires some local travel and occasional out of town travel through the year to attend various regional and national conferences and training.


Physical/Mental Demands

· Work requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds

· Work requires ability to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds

· Work requires ability to sit  +/-90% of the time

· Work requires ability to stoop and bend, to reach, and grab with arms and hands; manual dexterity and to communicate with others

· Work requires proofreading and checking documents for accuracy

· Work requires ability to use a keyboard and visualize a computer monitor to enter words or data

· OSHA personal exposure risk category 1 (possible blood, body fluids or tissue exposure to bloodborne pathogens)

·  Airborne risk category 1 (possible exposure of the healthcare worker to patients capable of transmitting M. tuberculosis). Universal precautions will be adhered to at all times
