JOB SUMMARY 

The Dentist diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth, gums and related oral structures, provides preventive dental education for patients and supervises subordinate staff members. 


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS 1. Examines patient to determine nature of condition, utilizing x-rays, mouth mirrors, explores and other diagnostic procedures and instruments. 2. Cleans, fills, extracts and replaces teeth, using rotary and hard instruments, dental appliances, medication and surgical instruments. 3. Supervises the operation, processing and development of radiological equipment and film, supervises dental procedures performed by the Dental Hygienist and Dental Assistants. 4. Assists in structuring and implementing continuous on-the-job training for personnel assisting the Dentist. 5. Utilization and maintenance of portable equipment. 6. Must complete Patient Safety Training curriculum. 


SECONDARY FUNCTIONS 1. Assists in the development of health care plans and objectives for preventive and service related clinical and community programs. 2. Regularly reviews dental practices, procedures, equipment and make recommendations for improvement. 3. Instructs patients and interested groups in preventive dental health practices. 4. Participates in Quality Improvement activities. 5. Participates in after-hour rotations for handling emergency calls. 


QUALIFICATIONS 1. Graduation from an accredited dental school. 2. State licensure to practice dentistry in Missouri. 3. Experience in a clinical setting is desired. 4. Thorough knowledge of current methods practices and procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and malformation. 5. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patients and staff, teachers and other school officials.
