Bland Ministry Center has operated a safety net dental clinic in Southwest Virginia since 1983; we currently have two locations as well as a school-based oral health program. We're looking to a hire a full-time (4 or 5 days per week) general dentist to join our growing practice. We serve patients in great need, many of whom are Medicaid enrollees or qualified for sliding-scale fees. Our goal is to bring patients out of emergency situations and focus on oral health education and restorative care. Requirements
- DDS/DMD licensed to practice in Virginia
- Must have a current DEA.
- Should have a minimum of 1 year experience; recent graduates encouraged to also apply.

STAFF DENTIST, POSITION SUMMARY
SUPERVISOR: Dental Director
POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Dentist is responsible for the provision of oral health services to patients at the Big Walker Dentistry location of Bland Ministry Center. The Staff Dentist works cooperatively and effectively with the Dental Director to assure a smooth and efficiently run center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES
a) Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
b) Initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
c) Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications.
d) Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic providers or outside agencies as appropriate.
e) Work cooperatively with Dental Assistant and other dental support staff.
f) Conduct follow-up patient care.
g) Provide dental and oral health education to patients and families.
h) Collaborate with dental director to maximize clinic productivity and scheduling procedures, and toward establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
i) Teach and train patients and staff on illness prevention.
j) Actively participate in community dental programs.
k) Assist with in-service and on-going training of clinic staff.
I) Build relationships and foster a high level of customer service.
m) Manage difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills.
n) Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization's policies and the standards of the dental profession.
o) Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
p) Perform assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
q) Utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval with proficiency.
r) Utilize and monitor effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the delivery of services.
s) Communicate frequently with others in verbal and written communication format.
t) Collaborate and coordinate patient care with partnering medical centers as needed.
u) Other duties as assigned by the dental director.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Certifications
- Licensed to practice dentistry in Virginia.
- D.D.S. or D.M.D.
- Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Professionals or ACLS)
- Current DEA certification
Experience
• Demonstrated success in leading a dental care staff of comparable size and scope.
• Demonstrated expertise related to trends and issues, laws and regulations associated with the delivery of oral health services.
• Demonstrated success in selecting and developing, motivating and directing high performing teams.
• Experience managing or practicing in a dental or oral health program.
• Capacity to envision and develop clinical programs consistent with clinic's mission and a publicly operated care delivery system.
• Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance and risk management standards and processes.
• Familiarity and experience with standards and processes established by JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, CDC, ADA and regulatory entities.
• Knowledge of federal regulations governing dental care clinical staff.
• Knowledge of credentialing process, delineation of clinical privileges and peer review for dental staff.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and EDR systems, preferably Patterson Eaglesoft.
Physical Demands

Work Environment
Work is performed in a health clinic setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Will work with blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
