Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare operatory for patient care by cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining equipment, sterilizing and sharpening equipment.

  • Greet the patient, making them feel at-ease and comfortable.

  • Take and record medical and dental histories and updated personal information in patient’s chart.

  • Expose and develop x-ray film.

  • Make intra oral impressions for study casts.

  • Pour study models, trim, make bleaching trays. Dispense bleach and inform proper usage to patient.

  • Perform full mouth periodontal probing or PSR on initial and appropriate subsequent visits. Record findings; note bleeding mobility, furcae involvement and tissue tone in patient’s chart.

  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth supra and sub-gingivally.

  • Scaling Root Planning and Periodontic maintenance cleanings, determine whether patient needs 3, 4 or 6-month recall.

  • Apply fluorides and other decay preventing agents to arrest dental decay.

  • Polish and floss teeth

  • Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.

  • Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health such as brushing, flossing, and other plaque control methods.

  • Apply sealant to the surfaces of teeth per diagnosis of dentist.

  • Prioritize activities and assignments as to their relative importance.

  • Exercise care in the completion of work assignments and request direction when needed.

  • Implement improvement measures and suggests ways to improve efficiency of operation and working conditions.

  • Attend all mandatory office and health center meetings.

  • Works as part of team and works at the Fitchburg Community Health Center as required.

  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment of the health center mission

  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the established CHC Values and Standards

  • Other duties may be assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygiene School

  • Successful completion of the National and State examination with Certification

  • One (1) similar work, internship or volunteer experience year experience required

  • Proficient reading, writing, and speaking in English.
