THIS WORK MATTERS!
The Dentist position is part of the Integrated Clinical Services (ICS) Division which provides quality health services for people who experience barriers to accessing care. The vision of Integrated Clinical Services is to provide services that are integrated and connected to support optimal health, reducing wait times and optimizing access.
The Dental Program works with many community partners, targeting underserved populations in Multnomah County to ensure access to dental services including providing education, prevention and dental treatment.
As a Dentist, other duties will include:
Clinic Skills
This PREFERRED PROVIDER POSITION (PPP) includes clinical practice of endodontics at a high skill level.
In endodontics, diagnosis and treatment of pulpal and periradicular disease is required. Initial root canal therapy, perforation repair and limited endodontic retreatment are examples treatment provided.
Provide triage and treatment of patients requiring emergency dental care, including treatment for patients in acute pain as necessary; prescribe medications; treat post-operative complications; refer complex cases when necessary; refer non-dental problems to appropriate medical specialty; evaluate and detect medical conditions for referral to primary care provider.
Ensure that Oregon Board of Dentistry requirements as outlined in the Dental Practice Act, including bulletins are adhered to, including both clinical and operational requirements.
This position will be expected to have indirect oversight and indirect supervision of any dental personnel (EFDA).
In order to ensure clinical competency, this position will be subject to peer review, which will include chart reviews, using a standardized template.
If audit results fall below a 90% average, a corrective action plan will be developed in accordance with established guidelines.
The provider is to treat complex cases referred by other providers.
Appropriate follow up for complex procedures and/or cases is expected as well as proper coordination with dental management and outside specialists when necessary.
As a preferred provider who will treat difficult procedures and/or cases and will be considered the in-house expert for the county.
This will entail being available to assist other providers in need of education or assistance when referring internally or externally, and possibly may involve training courses being offered for fellow Dentists.
Infection Control/Safety
Oversee and control strict asepsis controls to prevent transmission of communicable diseases; maintain strict control over the dispensing and use of toxic materials.
Maintains chain of infection control during patient care and charting and takes responsibility for infection control throughout the clinic.
Maintains and follows all safety standards and protocols.
Completes charting in a timely manner.
Maintain a safe and healthy workplace: All employees will receive safety and health training so that they can safely and properly do their work.
All employees will follow all policies/procedures in place to promote a safe and healthful work place.
All employees will incorporate safe work practices and actively participate in initiatives designed to promote a safe work environment.
Leadership
Instruct staff in the maintenance of accurate dental examination and treatment records; participate in staff conferences to review and improve the clinic and County dental care program; assist in the development of policies and procedures involved in the operation of a dental clinic; assist in the supervision of dental clinic staff.
Determine limits of insurance coverage and discuss options for treatment in the absence of insurance.
Provide Indirect supervision, assist and guide dental assistants, dental students (provided preceptorship designation has been granted), and other staff in technical work of the clinic; give instruction in the prevention and control of oral disease.
Exercises functional and technical supervision over assigned professional, technical staff and students.

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:
Dental degree (DDS or DMD) from an accredited institution
Oregon Nitrous license
Valid Oregon Dental License
Federal DEA License with Oregon Address
Current CPR card
Registration required to deliver or dispense controlled substances as outlined by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 475.125.
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and /or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
