Nationwide Children’s Hospital is seeking a full- or part-time dental hygienist with an interest or experience in pediatrics to join our medical-dental integration program. This is a unique opportunity to work as an integrated hygienist within primary care, primarily seeing children ages 3 and younger during their well-child visits.
The hygienist provides toothbrush prophylaxis, fluoride varnish, oral hygiene instruction, diet and nutritional counseling, anticipatory guidance, and helps establish a dental home by scheduling follow-up care at the main dental clinic. The goal of the program is to provide early access to preventive dental services when children are already coming in for medical care and to give families education and support during an important time in their child’s oral health development.
The position practices under Ohio’s Oral Health Access Supervision Program (OHASP), allowing the hygienist to provide services within the primary care setting without a dentist physically present.
The primary care clinic, located on the east side of Columbus, was the first Nationwide Children’s site to implement the integrated dental hygiene model. The program continues to grow, and in 2027 a dedicated dental space will be added at the site to allow for expanded preventive services, such as dental sealants.
We are ideally looking for someone interested in a full-time position but are open to part-time as well. Candidates must hold an active Ohio dental hygiene license and OHASP permit. Full benefits are available for eligible employees.
