In addition to job duties as Staff Dentist, the CDO is responsible for the overall quality and efficiency of all dental services provided by Great Lakes Bay Health Centers. This includes the community based oral health program and the provision of services in collaboration with the University of Michigan Dental School. Control is maintained by the CDO in the areas of performance of clinical duties, quality assurance, peer review, and any other staff activity impacting on the quality of care delivered at any GLBHC dental site. The CDO directly supervises the Director Dental Services, Dental Director, Director of Mobile Dental Program Services, Staff Dentists, and Dental Hygienists and is responsible for the recruitment of candidates for these positions.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Performs clinical services of a Staff Dentist. (50%)

Maintains standards of dental care delivery for all dental centers and oral health programs. Monitors performance activities, including patient access and availability; utilization review and external and internal referrals. (10%)

Responsible for the staffing at all GLBHC dental sites. (18%)

Responsible for chart audits for dental quality assurance, grant objectives, peer review, and quality improvement outcome measures. (3%)

Chairs dental provider/staff and dental administrative meetings and acts as the radiology supervisor. (3%)

Serves as, or ensures dental representative for, the Quality Improvement and Safety Committees and attends other meetings as appropriate. (5%)

Maintains relationship with GLBHC Board of Directors by attending meetings and submitting written reports as requested. (5%)

Maintains active alliances and collaborations with community educational institutions including faculty, advisory and board positions. (3%)

Maintains current knowledge of funding opportunities and relevant legislation at the Federal, State, and local level. Represents GLBHC and Community Oral Health issues statewide and nationally. (3%)

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES

Attend local or out-of-town training opportunities or meetings as assigned.

Assist in the development of additional community based oral programs as needs or opportunities arise.

Performs other duties as assigned.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Must have graduated from a U.S. Accredited Dental School.

Licensure: Maintains current certification and appropriate licensure as required by the State of Michigan Board of Dentistry, Board of Pharmacy, and the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration, and BLS Certification.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years performance as a Dentist in a group setting. Supervisory experience preferred.

Skills: Possesses understanding of quality assurance and utilization review requirements and activities.  Analytical skills and good oral and written skills required.  Ability to attend to administrative assignments on a timely basis.  Demonstrate skill in management of dental staff for day-to-day functions, as well as ability to interpret financial reports and governmental legislation.

Interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

Physical Effort: Medium.

Hours of Work: Full-time, flexible, and varied.

Travel: Required between GLBHC sites and for attendance at pertinent conferences.  Reimbursement consistent with corporate policy.
