JOB SUMMARY: The Dental Assistant 2 performs a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The position provides chair-side assistance to the dentists and/or hygienists.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


- Prepare operatory for designated dental procedures; seat patient and review medical history.

- Sterilize/disinfect dental operatories and instruments after each usage; set up the operatory for next patient.

- Assist dentists, volunteer providers, residents, and hygiene students in patient care.

- Expose and process dental radiographs as needed.

- Prepare dental cases for laboratory pick-up and keep a log of pending cases.

- Serve as translator and interpreter for dentists who do not speak Spanish.

- Provide patient education during patient care and post patient care.

- Schedule daily, weekly, monthly and yearly preventative maintenance on all dental equipment according to schedule.

- Maintain dental supplies and place.

- Orders in an efficient manner.

- Document each procedure in the designated log.

- Keep the inventory log of instruments.

- Follow all infection control procedures in treatment rooms and in the care of instruments.

- Ensure that volunteer, contractor and staff dentist complete the progress notes for the day.


EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:


- DC/MD dental assistant level 1 or 2 certification. Two (2) years’ experience working in a health care environment; preferably in a dental setting.

- Experience working with the Latino community.


SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:


- Bilingual: English and Spanish.

- Ability to identify priority issues. Ability to partner with others to pursue desired outcomes.
